Visit of the Chinese Ambassador to the Autonomous Port of Nouakchott: A Symbol of Strong Sino-Mauritanian Cooperation

The Autonomous Port of Nouakchott had the honor of hosting the first official visit of His Excellency Mr. TANG Zhongdong, the new Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Mauritania. This symbolic visit reflects the port's significance in the economic and diplomatic relations between Mauritania and China.

Upon his arrival, the Ambassador and his delegation were warmly welcomed by the Director General of the Autonomous Port of Nouakchott, known as the "Friendship Port," Master Sidi Mohamed MAHAM, along with his staff, at the General Directorate. Among the members of the Chinese delegation, Mr. Xiao Wensheng, Economic Counselor of the Chinese Embassy, played a key role in discussions on economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Discussions Focused on Friendship and Cooperation

The exchanges highlighted the historical friendship between Mauritania and China, which this year celebrates its 60th anniversary. This milestone holds special significance, as the number 60 symbolizes a complete cycle in Chinese culture, marking renewal and promising prospects for the future of bilateral relations.

Discussions also covered future cooperation opportunities, particularly in the context of port development projects. With the rise of the gas sector and the development of hydrogen in Mauritania, the Autonomous Port of Nouakchott plays a central role in facilitating trade and investments.

Furthermore, both parties welcomed the successful stopover of the Chinese hospital ship at the Autonomous Port of Nouakchott, a humanitarian initiative that demonstrates the spirit of solidarity between the two nations.

A Guided Tour of the Port's Strategic Infrastructure

Following discussions at the General Directorate, the Chinese delegation participated in a guided tour of the port's infrastructure. This visit provided an opportunity to showcase the port's key facilities and its capacity for managing maritime trade.

The tour itinerary included a stop at the Port Foundation, which works toward social and humanitarian development, as well as a visit to the foundation's new hospital center—an essential facility for the well-being of port workers and users.

This official visit illustrates the shared commitment to strengthening economic and strategic ties between Mauritania and China, paving the way for new partnership opportunities for the development of the Autonomous Port of Nouakchott and the country as a whole.
