La sécurité et la sûreté des installations portuaires représentent un atout spécifique du port de Nouakchott, matérialisé par sa certification, depuis 2008, conforme au Code ISPS (International Ship and Port FacilitySécurityCode) adopté en 2002 par l'OMI (Organisation Maritime Internationale) dont la Mauritanie fait partie.
